2020 Meetings

The FPHS usually meets on the second Saturday of each month, but do check our meeting dates below at the:

Near Waterloo Station, London. Unless otherwise indicated, starting time is 1:30 P.M. Room opens 1 pm

For security reasons it is necessary to bring a meeting programme card with you to the meeting. If you are not a member please contact the Membership Secretary for details. Meetings will be held in the Reserved Bar Lounge (except the February and March meetings which will be held in the Gasgoine Room.

Presidential Display - Afghanistan - Our President, Richard Berry FRPSL, had decided at the start of taking office that he would give one display as President during each of the three years that he was in office.

Following on from Rhodesia and then WW1 Conscientious objectors during his first two years Richard chose a very different subject to present for his third and final presidential display. We were treated to the First Afghan War (1839-1842) and, for the second half of his display, the Second Afghan War (1878-1880).

Each half of the display started with Richard giving a detailed introduction to the background, timeline and key events.  …

Members’ Displays - John Haynes plate 15-Page Competition

This year we had six entries - one down on last year - but you wouldn’t really know that unless you read my meeting report on our website as I’ve just realised that for some reason I had not included the report in any of last years Newsletters!  My apologies to last years winner Eddie Weeks, with his entry on the “Zeppelin Mail of World War I”, and to the other entrants for this omission.  As usual at the end of the competition members who entered gave a short talk on their respective entries.  …

RNAS Armoured Cars by Tony Walker

Tony had travelled all the way down from Newcastle-upon-Tyne to give us this display.  In the days beforehand with concerns about coronavirus he, Peter High and myself exchanged emails to just to make sure that Tony was still willing to travel and also that our meeting was still on!  It was, but with a much reduced attendance (only 11 members present) due to the every increasing worries over the virus.  In the event this proved to be our last meeting as we had decided to cancel our May gathering at London 2020 (which in any event had been postponed until 2022) and our April, June and July meetings.  …
