Zoom - 8 August 2010

We held a very successful zoom meeting on Saturday 8 August with some 21 members taking part, all of whom were from the UK except for two USA members (but one of whom was currently in Italy) and an Irish member who now lives in France.  Of the UK members most were regulars at our London meetings but it was good to see some provincial members and indeed a fairly new member.  Our President, Richard Berry, welcomed everyone to our first ever zoom meeting and we hope you all enjoyed the experience and a big thank you to Peter Harvey for organising and running the meeting.

There was a mixture of displays with Richard Berry showing some early War Office items; John Cranmer with WW2 material relating to an RCAF airman reported killed; Nick Colley with WW2 Royal Navy items; Alan Baker WW1 Portuguese related material; Martino Laurenzi British FPOs in Italy; Howard Weinert WW1 US naval mail from the Adriatic and early 1920s mail; Michael Dobbs with recent acquisitions of Norway 1946, modern packet datestamps on commemorative covers and an item from CEPO in Cyprus; Geoff Hanney with WW1 Indian Army FPOs including from Aden; Ian Muchall with WW1 RFC/RAF material and RAF between the wars in Iraq; Peter High with WW2 Hospital Ships and Karl Winkelmann with Irish military postal history during UN deployments (Congo/Cyprus/Lebanon).
