Another outstanding display from Harold Krische showing exceptionally rare cards with an Easter theme from German Prisoners of War in Japan WW1. These are camp printed cards, made by the prisoners depicting both Easter scenes and life within the camps. Includes inter-camp mail, cards sent home to Germany and illustrations of POW camp cachets.

Chris Grimshaw shows items originally from the Bob Swarbrick collection of Royal Marines mail WW1. Includes items from France, Gallipoli, Chisledon Wiltshire, FPO’s in Turkey, a cover sent to the 12th Royal Marine Battalion in Shanghai and the Base Defences in the Mediterranean.

A short display from Robert Hurst of post WW2 covers from the Royal Navy’s Survey Ship HMS Owen. Shows covers from the ships 7th commission in the Antarctic in 1961 including Maritime Mail from locations such as Tristan da Cunha and the Falkland Islands.

A WW2 display of 10 slides from Peter Harvey related to two brothers serving with the Umvoti Rifles, 4thSouth African Infantry, 2nd SA Division in North Africa. Includes items from El Alamein, Tobruk and Prisoner of War enquiries to the Red Cross, followed by POW items from camps in Italy and Germany.

An exceptional display by Garry Diffen, previously submitted to the society Presidents Cup Competition. Explains the paper shortages suffered by ANZAC troops at Gallipoli 1915 and the improvisation used to send letters and cards home, using ammunition boxes, cigarette packets, cigarette cartons and even card from their ration packs.
